  1. 150,000 is nothing for a president.
    Its a very special job.
    not everyone can get. and
    it has to be unique.

  2. I hope this would not happen

  3. i do not think the majilis should be debating on the salary of the president, there are more urgent and crucial matters to deal with.

  4. good article, i also feel that this is an hypocritical and insincere act designed by PA group. As the writer in the article has mentioned, they are going to make public turn away from the new government.

  5. For a president RF250,000 too is nothing.

But, we are talking about the monthly salary of president of a small economy torn country, we are talking about giving RM150,000 plus allowances to president and RF75,000 plus allowance to his vice president of this poor country where you don,t have provided basic needs to your people.

As the writer in the article mentioned, i am sure Majilis will submit to increase their own salary, ministers, salary and it will go on. Poor Maldivians will suffer

Keep aside North America, Europe etc. Look at our small nation, look at where our people are, look at what we have.

Mr. Naxim of PA, when you prepared your bill, wonder why you didnt propose USD33,000/month to our president as you have duplicated a copy of USA. Brother Naxim, keep in mind we are a poor nation, if you really need to look at models don't cross Indian ocean, look at models of India, look at models of Srilank, look at models of Nepal etc.

  7. the president being a real head in the presidential form of government, should be well paid. 150 000 is not a big amount as salary...apart from dat he should be given annual pensions and other emoluments. the president is the first citizen of the country..so y we should nt pay high enough fot his dignified post n position....firaz

  9. What a joke is this Nazim, want to play a game, come on man dont do these type of stupid things. If you are loyal to our nation dont come up with such bills. We all know what you and your Yamin wants to do. May be you have forgotten that we appointed this government for a reason, who are you to decide the wage of the president. We are not US, and we want to remind you that Anni is not Maumoon to give you a high post when this bill is approved. Open your eyes and clean your corrupted mind and think of the people, who dont have their 3 meals a day, who cant affotd to see a doctor, who cant send their cild to school,,and still you want to propose a high wage to the president and other leaders. I suggest His Excellency president Nasheed to deny such a wage for the sake of people. May be still Nazim and Yamin not happy with the washed money they have want play a different game, Please Anni this is the time for you to scan all these viruses and delete them from our country, otherwise they will multiply and do more harm and more crimes. A loyal Maldivian.

  10. This is pathetic! After all the swindlings is'nt this enough for Maumoon and clique? Now that the Maldivians have said NO! Why do'nt you understand?
    Oops! Greed knows no boundry!
Think ! You have had enough!
    Let the Maldivians decide !
Mr. President and his VP are people who can hear and understand the different wheeps of peoples. They have had and heard enough unlike the likes of NAXIMS and the MANS ! So please stop bothering to be the deciding bodies for Mr. President, the VP and their government.
You have governed us too well. Please let us be!

  17. When you raise the salary of the current president, it will also raise the salary of the ex-president. You double the salary of the current president and the previous president stays on the same salary he's been on for the last 30yrs (50% of the money a president gets) - according to what's been suggested by many people now.

Rich gets richer. No one is accountable for anything. We call it democracy and we're partying on the streets. We call it change. Of course there will be a change when the ruling powers are not the same.

Maldivians complain about the amount of money we get. We have failed to look at the sort of lives we live. We of course think that Maldives is up there with the most developed countries on this planet and that we have a lot of money to spend. We ask for money - loads of it. We will never cut down on our expenses. We think that because we have over resort islands with lovely beaches and crystal clear water that we should be up there with the people who rule this planet.

We need to think. We need to think a lot. All the coffee is not really helping. I don't think the high-tech gadgets we think we all should have is helping either.

Now we're all resting. It's like we have fought a long hard battle. Some people did, of course. Most of us did not. Most of us carried yellow flags and later multi-coloured ones. What did we really do?

Now we have a problem when people question the current system. You must not speak. You must listen now.

The ruling party is not the same. In fact there was no ruling party before. It was a one-man-show. Someone claimed ownership of out lives for 30yrs.

Are we to stop now? Isn't it the time we should really be thinking since we feel that we have the right to think. I know that we are not allowed to think about certain things. But at least we can think about how the country is run and where the money is going. We can think about our own lives. We can think about what we're getting and what the country is making.

Time to think deeper. Rest if you must. Enjoy a good night's sleep. Enjoy the freedom that you think you have. But you must get up soon.

    The people must speak.
